This course is designed to provide a clear understanding of all the relevant aspects of the loss control function in marine transport. When most people consider losses related to marine transport of crude oil they recall the headline making losses relating to disasters such as the Exxon Valdez or the Erika. However much larger ‘losses’ occur daily, not through spillage but due to differences in the measurements made at load port and at discharge port. Although these differences rarely indicate a physical loss of oil they have very real financial implications and many of the larger oil companies employ specialist loss control teams to monitor these losses and to intervene when necessary. The skills required to carry out loss control range from contract arrangements through marine operations to flow metering and laboratory analysis.
This course will teach you the skills for protecting your client’s interests by understanding the varied causes of losses, how to investigate them and how to minimise their effect.
