The purpose of electric systems start-up, commissioning and testing is to increase the stability, integrity and reliability of electrical power systems after installation by identifying problems and providing a set of baseline values for comparison with subsequent routine tests. Various types of testing, measuring and analyzing instruments are used to ensure that the various systems and sub systems equipment are functioning correctly. These instruments are performed on circuit breakers, transformers, protection relays, instrument transformers, batteries, UPS system and motors. Also, the course covers the inspection & maintenance of electrical equipment at different levels of voltage.  Delegates are encouraged to raise queries both during and at any time after attending the course. Delegates are also encouraged to bring with them any issues or experiences that they may have to this course. Following the attendance at this course, participants will return to their respective organizations equipped with new skills and knowledge to enable them to more effectively start-up and commission electrical systems and to solve problems that arise during these activities.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • A better understanding of commissioning procedures
  • A better understanding of inspection & troubleshooting procedures
  • An improved capability in the use of test equipment
  • A better understanding of failure modes and failure analysis
  • A refreshed awareness of electrical safety concern
  • Developed a structured approach to electrical commissioning, testing and troubleshooting
  • Been given methods/solutions for various electrical problems
  • Interacted and gained from shared experiences
  • Examples and case studies to illustrate the material being discussed
  • Technical material appropriate to the organizations represented
