Measurement and testing must be done before oil and gas production can be sold to ensure the production is suitable for market and verify the volumes being sold. As the recent problem with the quality of oil in the pipeline has stopped the shipments for almost two weeks from one of the large oil producers, the importance of measurement and testing cannot be overstressed.

There are two methods which are widely used, and those are: Static Measuring (Gauging System) and Dynamic Measuring (Metering System).

Automatic measuring is used in reservoirs with levels which are constantly changing, as well as the systems for loss prevention and control, where the use of systems for automatic measuring is required, as its level of accuracy must be much higher that the accuracy achieved during manual measurement.

This training course will highlight:

  • Principles of gauging and metering
  • Best practices in automated measurement
  • Influence of temperature and density
  • Causes of losses
  • Physical (actual) and pseudo loss
  • Basic Process Control System (BPCS)

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of automated measurement of oil stockpiles
  • Understand the metrics of oil stockpiles calculation
  • Learn the best practices of gauging and metering
  • Determine adequate systems for your plants and facilities
  • Apply the automated measurement systems without problems
